Starting a search engine optimisation business from scratch can be an extremely overwhelming and daunting task, especially if it is your first time. Establishing contacts and connections can also be extremely time consuming if you have no prior marketing and sales knowledge.

Below is a useful guide to help you get your first clients and to get your SEO / SEM business off the ground. Before I begin, please keep in mind that “word-of-mouth” is king, get the word out, talk and mention your business to whomever, whenever and wherever. Remember, the more exposure you offer your business, the more chances you will have landing that first deal.

Search engine optimisation marketing and offline selling tips:

1. Target your market and know your customers, i.e. do some background research. It helps to initially concentrate on one industry, e.g. travel websites, and know the terms, your clients, their line of work and their competition.

2. Localise yourself, concentrate on a local area. Try not to tackle too much at first, focus and concentrate on local businesses and gain their trust. Remember “you are a local” and share similarities.

3. Meet with them, form a partnership and more personal relationships.

4. Assess your advertising options (depending on your budget), consider using the following advertising tools:

a. Local newspapers – place a catchy add.

b. T-shirts – they create great advertising on the street or wherever you go. Also, choose an eye catching slogan.

c. Business cards – choose an appealing and aesthetically pleasing design, trust me professionalism and great design go a long way.

d. Billboard and brochure advertising for those that have the financial means.

e. Taxi advertising: Taxis can be seen all over town by motorists, many of who may happen to be company executives looking to increase their online sales.

f. Radio is also not a bad way of reaching out to people, however this can be costly.
5. Join your local chamber of commerce, meet business people and discuss your SEO business. Offer them a FREE brief website analysis / proposal on their website and show them how you can increase their online traffic and sales.

6. Referrals, referrals, referrals and partnerships. Speak to web design / web development and ISP companies, form partnerships, offer them commission if they refer companies to you.

7. Last but not least: There is nothing like cold calling. Go straight to your source, bypass the marketing manager, do not collect $200, and head straight for the decision maker. Again, as in tip #5, offer a FREE SEO website analysis.

Follow these steps and you can be sure that you’ll be on your way, just stick to your guns and persevere. Deals and contracts may not rush in overnight, however you can be sure sales and new clients will come about in a short period of time. Best of luck!

One of the most versatile hockey playing countries in the world, Pakistan has won the Gold medal in Olympics thrice starting from 1960. The 1960 Olympics hockey gold medal win is memorable because they defeated the winning streak of India. Since then hockey in Pakistan has evolved and even become larger than life in stature.

Before entering the 1960 Rome Olympic Games, Pakistan had already tasted victory in the 1958 Tokyo Asian Games where they got the gold medal defeating arch rivals India. The 1960 Olympic men’s hockey team had retained the same team barring a few players from the 1958 Tokyo Asian Games winning team. Eight of the players had played in the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games final against India and this is where they had also won their first ever Olympic medal.

In the 1960 Olympics, the team players knew that this was probably their last shot at Gold as they were ageing. The 1960 Olympics Pakistan hockey team was led by Abdul Hameed Hameedi who was incidently the lone survivor from the 1948 London Olympics. Hameedi had a strong influence on the team and he had made certain interesting and strategic changes like replacing Zafar Ahmad Khan by Zafar Hayat at the penultimate moment. The manager of the team was Ali Iqtidar Shah (AIS) Dara, who was the coach of the 1956 Olympics squad.

Pakistan started their hunt for gold in the 1960 Olympics in a cavalier fashion and beat the super-strong and fit Australians by 3-0. It was a strong match and Pakistan started scoring only in the last 15 minutes. Poland was next and was pulverized 8-0 while Japan got thrashed by a 10-0 margin. The quarter-final saw Pakistan in a battle of nerves with West Germany and on top of that they missed the services of full-back Munir Dar although substitute Basheer Ahmad did a fine job.

Pakistand opened their score sheet with Abdul Waheed, one of the best centre forwards of all time but Germany equalized within a short span. Finally, the winning goal was netted by Naseer Bunda, the left-in. Pakistan went on to win the semi-final against Spain by a 1 goal margin scored by full-back Manzoor Hussain Atif. Then came the D-Day – the finals!

It was India with their 6 consecutive wins versus Pakistan who was hungry for their first ever win. The green shirts went on with an all-out attack. Through the entire tournament, the main strategy of Pakistan was employing the right trio of Ghulam Rasool Chaudhry, Hameedi and Noor Alam. As the clock ticked away, Hameedi slipped the ball to Noor Alam in the 13th minute. Noor Alam found left-in Naseer Bunda, who flicked the ball onto the left side of the Indian goalkeeper. This was the all important goal as it announced Pakistan’s arrival into the world of hockey!

Pakistan had outclassed, out-spirited and out-sprinted every team that came in its way and scored 25 magnificent goals to etch their name in Olympic history.

Traditional wood fireplaces and stoves have been used for centuries. Traditional fireplaces are very inefficient in heating a room, as they primarily use radiant energy to provide warmth. Traditional fireplaces and stoves use the air from the room to provide oxygen for combustion. Wood fireplaces are available in a wide variety of styles and building materials. Wood burning stoves also are available in a multitude of styles colors and features, based on your heating needs. Wood burning appliances require a class A chimney. The chimney may be built of masonry or of double lined steel. There are options to consider for both wood burning fireplaces and wood burning stoves.

Wood Fireplace Options

Traditional fireplaces, constructed of firebrick and mortar, are designed to burn logs. The styles and sizes of fireplaces are as varied as the architects who have designed them. Traditional fireplaces are usually built onsite utilizing brick masons, cinder blocks, fire brick and ceramic flues. The chimney of the fireplace needs to extend above the highest point of the roof to avoid downdrafts. The size and weight of a traditional fireplace requires a substantial and stable foundation. Usually traditional fireplaces are built during new construction.

Fireplace inserts have gained in popularity, as they are much cheaper and lighter than traditional fireplaces. Fireplace inserts are built in factories and shipped pre-assembled to the home, resulting in less labor costs for installation. Wood fireplace inserts also are designed to be installed next to wood materials, with close clearances, allowing wood framing to be used in chimney construction. Many metal fireplace inserts have air ducts and fans to increase the amount of heat transferred from the fire.

Both fireplace inserts and traditional fireplaces require the installation of flame proof hearth on the floor. The hearth is required to prevent logs that may roll out of the fireplace from setting the floor on fire.

Wood Stove Options

Traditional wood burning stoves are made of cast iron. Antique stoves are not air tight, preventing accurate regulation of the fire. Because the flame is hard to regulate, more heat is lost in the flue gases, reducing the stove’s overall heating efficiency. The thick cast iron used in construction of older stoves allows an extremely long useful life. Stoves built in the early 1800’s are still in use with little restorative work. An ornate antique stove from the Victorian era could be a main architectural feature of a house.

Airtight stoves became popular during the 1970’s because of their greater efficiency. One load of wood could be set to burn all night. The advantage of the airtight stove is in the long burning time and greater fuel efficiency. Less heat is lost up the chimney. Also, modern airtight stoves have catalytic converter options that help reduce the amount of creosote and other unburned gases going up the flu.

Both types of wood stoves need to be placed on fireproof surfaces. Because of the radiant heat emitted, adequate clearance of the stove from flammable walls, floor materials and fabrics needs to be maintained.

Both wood burning fireplaces and stoves provide an impressive architectural feature for a room. A well built fireplace or stove could be an added source of heat for your house.

There are several distinct types or styles of embroidery. Medieval, crewel, whitework to name just a few of them. They are briefly explained here. White work – is precisely what it says. Embroidered in white thread, on pure white fabric, it is not at all difficult, and is inexpensive to achieve. It does however have one drawback and that is that it tends to show the crafters skill, or each and every mistake.

The tools you will need for whitework embroidery are minimal. Firstly, a nice piece of fabric. depending on the kind of item you wish to produce, you may start out with a high thread count white muslin, or an even weave such as aida or linen.

The easier fabric to work with are usually cotton, linen or any natural fabric. cotton will work for you as well any other and is the most inexpensive. If you are making what will be an heirloom piece linen makes some wonderful quality pieces that will last for many years with good care. In addition to the fabric a hoop to hold the fabric taut, white thread or silk and needles. You can make or purchase an iron on pattern for your embroidery or draw one on the fabric.

You’ll need a hoop, a pattern, white thread, and needles corresponding to the size of your thread.

Two strands of embroidery floss will work best. DMC floss, silk or even very thin, wool or cotton thread. What sort of design? It can be as simple or as intricate as you desire it to be. Your own designs to make something completely original, or that of an embroidery book will work just as well. To transfer the design to the fabric deep blue usually works best and will eventually absorb itself into the fabric if it is not completely covered by the embroidery design when it is finished.. A tracer pencil or transfer paper will work admirably for transferring the design if it is your own drawing. The stitches you will probably use will be backstitch, stem stitch, satin stitch, chain stitch. Many others may also be used, as simple or as intricate as you wish. It is a good idea to purchase an inexpensive book of embroidery stitching as a guide to stitches.

Above all work with adequate lighting to make the work much easier on the eyes. Embroidery is a hobby which can also become a career. More than anything else it should be interesting and fun to come up with your final project.
